Laura Berg, Gemini Organizing
Local Spotlight, Laura Berg, Gemini Organizing
I first noticed Laura on Instagram. I loved the nice clean aesthetic she had curated on her feed and she does a fantastic job offering home organization tips. I could tell she had a generous heart simply by her tone in her posts and her support of other small businesses on Instagram. I respect that and I'm drawn to folks that have that approach. I reached out to her and we had a chance to meet up for coffee at The Commons downtown. It was obvious to me as I learned more about her, that Laura truly finds joy in helping people organize their home so they can better enjoy their space and time. I’m happy to share with you today a bit more about Laura Berg and Gemini Organizing.
Tell us about Gemini Organizing. What made you decide to open this type of business and what services do you offer?
--Gemini Organizing is a labor of love. For years I worked in a corporate HR job that was a drain on my sensibilities. The culture was something I didn't feel good about. I wanted to take my best skills and apply them to something that could really help people. In HR, I loved listening to people and working with them to make their jobs better and I knew that could transition to all aspects of life. That's how Gemini Organizing was born. I organize homes and use my HR skills to help small businesses run more efficiently. Everything I do is centered around what works best for the person I am organizing for. I LOVE organizing. Like love, love. It's my passion and my therapy.
Being a small business owner can be so rewarding and challenging all at the same time. What are your favorite and least favorite aspects of being a small business owner?
--Besides all of the regular perks like doing what I love, setting my own schedule, etc, I am grateful that owning my own business pushes me out of my comfort zone on a daily basis. Being an introvert, I need that.
--My least favorite part of being a business owner is accounting. Yuck. I have mad respect for people in that field.
What would your dream organizing job/client look like?
--My dream client is someone who is excited about the possibilities! They don't need to buy fancy organizing supplies or throw away everything they have. If they can see the value in what organizing brings to their life, we are 90 percent there!
What's the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
--I don't look for advice so much as nuggets of wisdom. They are everywhere. Even kids have them. Here are a couple I live by:
1. When I was going through a hard time in my life where I felt stuck, my friend, Angie, simply said "Be easy on yourself. More will be revealed." I think of that all the time. There's always a way through and sometimes it takes time. Pay attention to the signs and you will get there. More is always revealed.
2. Not sure who told me this, but I always say "Tune into your intuition and do what it tells you." It never, ever fails.
What area of town do you live in and what do you love most about it?
We live on Awbrey Butte and I love that it's a mix of everything from young families to retired folks. But there isn't a bad area in Bend! You can't go wrong in any neighborhood here.
How can Gemini Organizing help people in the process of relocating or moving into a new home?
Oh, this is one of my favorite organizing jobs. Pre-move, I help declutter, store, and stage your home for sale. Post-move, I unpack and set up your house into organized systems so you aren't living out of boxes or wondering where to put everything.
Our community is comprised of so many talented and innovative people creating ways to share their skills. What are a few of your favorite local business owners/artists/organizations?
--I feel guilty naming just a few. There are so many!
Favorite local hang/restaurant?
Favorite aspect of living in Bend?
The laid back vibe.
What's something you're looking forward to in the coming year?
I'm a simple girl. I look forward to spending time with my family and friends and being home. Anything else is icing on the cake.
